...this month's Company magazine out NOW! Galaxy Ripple and Little Black Dress (Headline) have teamed up with Company to search for a new young (sh*t, does that let an OAP like me out?) writing talent. The winner gets the chance to have her (or his, I guess) short story of no longer than 2,000 words published at the end of a forthcoming LBD book + 5 runners-up go for lunch with Headline and have the chance to ask Julie Cohen for advice on becoming a bestselling author.
Closing date 16th Sep.
Happy Writing!!

I hope there's no age limit or we'll have to tweak the truth a bit:-)
I read about this on someone else's blog and got my copy of Company this afternoon. It's a shame they're not going to pay or give a prize beyond publication but it would be good publicity for getting your name 'out there'. NB: The small print says the copyright of the story belongs to Little Black Dress so you won't be able to sell it in the future or claim any rights to it. In my book it's worth it for getting your name out there (and the story I'm going to sub is too racy for the womags!) but some people might not agree.
Good luck with everything!
Lane, I'd have to tweak the truth a lot!
Cally, I agree; it would be good publicity. I think LBD titles sell well. Also, the winner and runners-up would probably get a chance to speak to one of the LBD eds at the lunch.
Thanks, Ellie. I'm not sure if I'll enter or not (nothing to do with my age you understand) I just haven't got back into writing yet and Sep 16th isn't far off.
Can't they change Young Writer to New Writer?.... Oh well, back to the scribbling pad for us oldies then.
Best wishes, Pat.
Annie
Thanks for this, it looks really interesting. I love LBD books and think it would be great to have a short story published in one of their titles. I'm guessing you need an entry form from the mag?
I used to buy Company when I was a mere gal!
I've just found the answer to my own question as details of this comp. are on LBD's website. Thanks for the heads up, Pat.
Hi, Annie W
Good to see you here.
Yes, I think they could have put it better. The word 'young' seems as if they're excluding the not so 'young'. There again, aren't we supposed to be as young as we feel? Or act?
Will pop over to visit your blog soon.
Maddie, it does look interesting, doesn't it? I bought the magazine because (a) I'd never seen a copy and (b) for the free mascara. Seeing the comp was a bonus.
Sounds interesting, Pat. Think I may be too old to be young writer though! :-)
I've been out to buy my copy, now I have to think of something interesting to write about.
This could take a while.
Annie and Debs
You've both echoed my thoughts!
Age is in the eye of the beholder ... and if they're not actually specifying an age limit then I'd take that as a green light!
Ooh thanks for this....I'm sure I'll have something tucked away. Also, lovely blog! :)
OK, Helen
I'll try and get creative then!
Hi, Kerry, and welcome. I heart new visitors; come back soon.
Sounds good to me. It's a bit manic around here at the moment as you know, but I'll see if I can manage to squeeze something out!
Thanks for the tip
CJ xx
